Recap[]

The prisoners were taking part in a prison work program. They got paid pennies while doing manual labor. The companies they were working for got to save money.

They also took additional risks with people that society wouldn’t care about. There was an accident. Somone drove the truck accidentally into a gas tank. It caused an explosion. The wall got torn down and several prisoners saw their chance. They ran. There was one guy that stuck around long enough to shoot a guard. His name is Gordon Pratt.

Pratt was smart. He put the gun he stole from the sheriff deputy in another prisoner’s hand. It happened right before the other guards moved in and so everyone assumed the man with the gun was their shooter.

They almost killed him before he dropped the gun. He was taken with everyone else that didn’t run back to prison. SWAT had to go find the missing prisoners. Leading the investigation was Deputy Chief Bennett. Bennett pushed out Hicks and now she was doing his job. She technically outranks him.

She was also just a filler. The brass was looking for permanent replacement for Hicks. Hicks was sticking around to navigate Bennett through her time at SWAT and he wasn’t going to let hurt feelings put cops at risk. If he has to bite his tongue, he will and he did. They looked into the prisoners that escaped. They weren’t in prison for low level crimes.

Pratt was guilty of murder. There’s no way these people should have been given a chance to join the prison work program. And the man that started the program was David Bennett.

Formerly Warden Bennett started the program right before he was fired. He was a horrible warden. He put countless lives at risk and now his old prison was kicking off a crime wave all throughout the city. Deputy Chief Bennett didn’t really need Hicks. Not at first. She went in gun blazing. She had the team check possible contacts that were nearby for the missing prisoners.

One of them was a woman. She wasn’t helping a prison out of free will. He threatened to kill her and so SWAT had to save her before she could help. She’s the one that told them the prisoners were meeting onto one location.

The prisoners had banded together to get a huge payday. Pratt was leading them. There were two prisoners that escaped and they were from rival gangs. They couldn’t wait to turn on each other when they got apprehended.

They said that Pratt got word from the inside about a huge score. Money that will set them up for life in Mexico. Pratt heard about it in prison. He has a man on the inside was named Kodiak. Kodiak used to work for a very rich man before he got sent to jail. His boss never pulled strings to get him out. And Kodiak wasn’t going to reward betrayal with loyalty.

Kodiak told Pratt everything. The cops looked into Kodiak’s boss. He was known for carrying around tons of gold and jewelry. It’s in case he has to run. He has enough on him to set the prisoners up somewhere else.

He was also throwing a party for his little girl. It was a catered affair. SWAT realized that the stores and supplies that the prisoners stole around the city were to help them get into the birthday party. They were pretending to be servers. They also killed the actual servers. SWAT found a body when they finally put the clues together.

Hicks also got to rub Bennet’s face in what he learned. They checked the books for the prison work program. The prison was getting paid far more than one man let on. Bennett’s husband stole from the prison. He put all these things at play because of his actions. Bennett herself realized why. They got together when they were young.

She wanted to climb the ranks of LAPD. He wanted to climb the ranks of City Hall. Her career took. His never did. He became a warden and he started stealing money before he was ultimately fired. Bennet didn’t know because they have separate accounts. She also didn’t want to check his account because she knew he had secrets.

Bennett thought David was having an affair. With everything David did so far, there’s no telling what else he did. SWAT found evidence of the kickbacks. They showed Bennett her husband’s records.

She asked to go talk to him on her own and be the one to bring him in. She left. She never came back. Hicks was getting worried and so he went to go check on her. He was driving to her house when the rest of SWAT took down the prisoners. There was only one left. He didn’t care about money. He wanted revenge against Bennett’s husband.

It turns out David can sink even lower. There was a prisoner that found out about the kickbacks. They threatened to report him and so he tortured him. He put in solitary for weeks.

He took away family visitation so that he couldn’t see his family. He drove that man up the wall. That way he wouldn’t be believed if he ever got around to telling everybody. This prisoner took both Bennett and her husband as hostages. He wanted to torture them. He could have killed them if Hicks hadn’t spotted what was happening from the window.

Hicks killed the final prisoner. SWAT did their jobs. The city was safe. Bennett was proud of them for it. It also made her realize that the fault always lied with her and not Hicks. She was going to resign. She also tore up Hicks’s resignation letter as her final act on the job. Hicks can go back to being a SWAT Commander.

Plus, Gamble heard from her family. Her father was sick. He needed surgery and he was turning it down. He’d rather die than go back to prison. He hated it there. Dying in the hospital would at least return his dignity.

Gamble didn’t like what her father did, but he was still her dad, and she was going to be by his side until he was out of pain.

And Powell was going on a date with her ex-boyfriend. She and Jace were teenage sweethearts until they got pregnant. Jace wasn’t ready. Powell gave the baby up for adoption. They never talked afterwards.

They also never got to break up. They reconnected when their biological son wanted to get to know them. It made them see that they still have a lot of feelings to resolve and the best way to do so was over dinner.
