Police Officer III James "Jim" Street is a recruit to Los Angeles Police Department S.W.A.T. He is transferred from the Long Beach Police Department S.W.A.T. He is portrayed by Alex Russell.

As of Season 7, Street has transferred back to Long Beach PD to become team leader of 30-Company and being promoted to Sergeant II.

Biography[]

When Street was just 12 years old, his mother, Karen Street, was arrested by future S.W.A.T Team Leader Buck Spivey for shooting her abusive husband/Street's father Eddie Street to death. Street got into the foster care system, where it is implied that he had a rough time. His closest remaining contact from that time was his temporary foster brother, Nate, as well as Buck who kept an eye on Street throughout his police academy training until Buck gets fired and pulls strings to get Street onto S.W.A.T. so that Hondo can help Street. Early on, Street proves to be a hotshot cop and a lone wolf, taking dangerous risks to get the bad guys, making Hondo question whether or not he's fit for S.W.A.T. He still visits his mother in prison and his manipulative and probably mentally ill mother does take advantage of him, which leads him into more trouble with Hondo. After her release from prison, he lets her stay at his place. Ultimately, in the season 1 finale, Street strains his relationship with the team to deal with another crisis involving his mother, which leads to Hondo booting him off S.W.A.T.

Eventually, after learning that his mother restarted using drugs behind his back, Street breaks ties with her and moves out of his house. Afterwards, he apologizes to Hondo, stating he was right all along. Hondo accepts his apology and gets him into SWAT Academy since Street originally got onto S.W.A.T. because Buck pulled some strings. After weeks back at the academy, despite not being chosen back at SWAT, Deacon decides to bring Street back for one day. Then Hicks reveals that Street will rejoin S.W.A.T on a probationary period for 6 months.

In a desperate bid to ensure his S.W.A.T probationary period goes well, Street volunteers for all the in-office grunt work while trying to find a new place to stay. Seeing his exhaustion, Luca tells him it's more important to perform well in the field than to take on extra work as penance. Luca later offers Street to move into the second bedroom of the house he just bought through the Good Neighbor program, though the two also retain Sarzo Alsonso to make much-needed repairs.

When he receives word that his mother went missing, Street, learning from his previous mistakes, goes straight to Hondo regarding the situation. Eventually, after finding out his mother has been using drugs, Street reports his mother to her parole officer for skipping parole check-ins and continuous use of drugs and narcotics, which leads his mother to be sent back to prison. The two of them part on bad terms for a long time, though originally meant to be only one year.

Street later enters a relationship with Molly Hicks, Commander Robert Hicks' daughter, against the advice of his teammates. Hicks approves the relationship so long as Street doesn't hurt her and they keep any public displays of affection out of headquarters.

Personality[]

In the beginning, Street is shown as an impulsive hotshot and rule-breaker who likes to do things on his own. In Cuchillo, whilst looking into Street's background, Luca and Tan note that Street was a "kick-ass cop" during his tenure with the Long Beach Police Department, but also warn that he had faced numerous disciplinary charges and had been transferred between units. He somewhat settles down following pep-talks from both Hondo and Chris, but he is still shown to be impulsive and reckless at times, such as in Pamilya, when he abandons his duties to S.W.A.T. in order to do a favor for his imprisoned mother, which results in him assaulting a civilian. In Octane, Hondo tells Cortez that, although he feels that Street has come a long way since his rocky start, he still believes that Street is overconfident and unpredictable.

However, despite his impulsiveness and wisecracking attitude, Street is shown to kind-hearted and caring, especially towards young children, as shown in Cuchillo, when he comforts Caspar Jemenez, the terrified young son of the woman who testified against Cuchillo, and teaches him a trick taught to Street by Buck on how to remain calm in scary situations. In Gasoline Drum, Street's softer side is again shown when he risks his life to save a terrified young girl, Ela, who is unwillingly left behind by her mother and brother when heavily armed intruders break into their home. Hondo notes that she seems to have a connection with Street and asks him to talk to her. Chris later remarks to Street that he is good with kids and there is obviously something about him that the terror-stricken girl trusts since she will only talk to him.

After being kicked off S.W.A.T and reinstated again, Street has become much more matured and follows protocol. His relationship with his mother is somewhat estranged after learning her true nature, and eventually, he chose to turn against his mother and sent her back to prison when he found her under the influence of drugs again, telling her that it is the only way that she will get better and that he doesn't want her to die.

Relationships[]

Karen Street[]

After Street's abusive father's death, Street and his mother have a very close emotional relationship. She emphasizes constantly that she killed her husband for her son and wanted to save him, thereby leading him at a young age to believe that he was an accomplice at the murder. Due to her manipulative behavior, Street has great difficulties to establish a border between them, which leads to an unhealthy, emotionally dependent relationship. She uses his love and excessive loyalty to make him feel sorry for her and to feel guilty as soon as he expresses doubts if she is telling him the truth. After being released from prison, Karen stays at Street's place, pretending to follow social rehabilitation. However, she keeps using drugs and stealing money behind his back, all while emphasizing her gratefulness towards her son. After finding out about this, Street starts to realize that his mother does not plan on rehabilitate and kicks her out. Also emotionally he estranges from her greatly and starts seeing her clearly, thus reducing their emotionally toxic relationship. After turning her in to her parole officer, he breaks off all contact with her. Only in season 4, Street gets back in touch with his mother who is in the hospital and suffers from liver failure due to liver cirrhosis. She tries to manipulate him into giving her part of his liver. This time, Street is aware of his mother's aims and manipulation. Nonetheless, he decides to do the transplant surgery because he doesn't want to be the one responsible for her death. However, a short time after the transplant Commander Hicks and Dr. Hughes tell him that his mother died of drug overdose.

Christina "Chris" Alonso[]

Chris is Street's teammate on the 20-David S.W.A.T. squad and the two of them become very close friends. Along with Tan, they are viewed as the youngsters by the other team members. Chris and Street are generally very straight and honest with each other, not hesitating to give each other a piece of their mind when the other one is acting foolish or irresponsible. They make a good team on S.W.A.T. missions and save each other's lives on multiple occasions. They are very protective of each other, which sometimes leads to one of them meddling in the other one's private business. Street, who doesn't have anyone close to him apart from his abusive mother, refers to Chris as his best friend, and vice versa. Little scenes indicate that they are each other's most important person and worry a lot about each other, as seen for example by them being particularly relieved when one of them has been in danger and is rescued by the team. When Chris gets poisoned on a mission in season 1, ep. 19 and almost dies, Street kneels by her side and shouts at her to stay with him. After Erika's death, he tells her that he would not have recovered if it was her who got killed. They develop romantic feelings for each other over time but, mostly due to Chris' resoluteness and denial, ignore those feelings since they would lead to repercussions at work. Street is more offensive with these feelings and not scared of them. He tries to confront Chris occasionally and wants to talk about their situation, but Chris refuses. They kiss once in season 2, ep. 20, but Chris blocks off all of Street's attempts to talk about it. Despite Chris' announcement after the kiss that their relationship will stay within work limits from then on, they care too much about one another and, denying their feelings, go back to being close friends all throughout season 3. In season 4, their feelings become more apparent. In the light of Street wanting to donate part of his liver to his mother, Chris overcomes her fears and her denial and admits her feelings to him, even though they haven't figured out a way to deal with them at their workplace. The two begin a relationship when Chris decides to quit S.W.A.T.. Luca was the first to find out about their relationship.

Despite her departure from the team, their status remains strong and they are even living together.

Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson Jr.[]

Hondo and Street have deep mutual respect for each other, even though they have several rough conflicts, especially during season 1. When Street joins 20-David, he is known for being a good cop, but also a hothead who can act irrationally, get ahead of himself and get disrespectful in a fight with his superiors. Hondo knows about Street's past since Luca has a friend at Long Beach PD who was able to get them Street's filem. Hondo also knows about his mother and keeps a vigilant eye on Street. The two of them have a few serious disagreements about Street's mother, which culminates in Hondo banning Street from S.W.A.T. At first, Street is angry and feels abandoned and betrayed. Hondo is just another person on a long list of people who claimed or were supposed to care about Street but ended up abandoning him. However, Street understands that Hondo has only his best interests in mind and doesn't hold a grudge for long. With Street's internal development, he becomes calmer, more thoughtful and a reliable team member, and Hondo sees him less as someone he has to keep an eye on and more as a solid, experienced team member. This is shown when Street is worried about his foster brother Nate being reinvolved in criminal business. Instead of dealing with it on his own, as he might have done earlier, he reports to Hondo and they manage to pull off a successful undercover mission.

Molly Hicks[]

Molly is Commander Hicks' daughter and Street's girlfriend for some time. The two of them meet on a S.W.A.T. festivity and are instantly interested in one another. Their relationship is very positive and respectful. However, Street breaks up with her when he realizes that his feelings for Chris are too intense and that he isn't able to love Molly the way she deserves.

Victor Tan[]

Tan seems to be Street's closest male friend. The two of them discuss one another's relationship issues and have each other's backs.
