Captain III Jessica Cortez was a Commanding Officer of Los Angeles Police Department's Metropolitan Division. She forms a special connection with Daniel Harrelson as her lover. She is a respected officer who has plans to improve the relationship between the LAPD and the citizens of Los Angeles, despite some resistance from the rank and file.

She was portrayed by Stephanie Sigman.

Biography[]

The daughter of immigrants, Jessica became a naturalized American citizen at 22.

Four months prior to the series, Jessica began a surreptitious romantic relationship with SWAT Officer Hondo Harrelson, which, while frowned upon, was not expressly forbidden by LAPD policy; however, after his promotion to Team Leader (which put him directly under her command), the two struggled to keep their relationship secret. Hondo ultimately broke up with her after they were caught by Commissioner Michael Plank in order to protect her career.

She wanted to implement a lot of community-based initiatives that she showed the Commissioner to receive assistance in getting the approved.

As a Captain, Jessica carries a Glock 19 in 9×19mm as her duty weapon.

In the second season finale, she accepts an offer for an FBI assignment and leaves the LAPD to go undercover. By the start of the third season, she has seemingly taken the assignment permanently.

When on duty, she has her hair tied in a ponytail or half up do. She wears a white dress shirt, a black business suit, and black pants. In the episode of The Tiffany Experience, she wears jeans and a jacket.

  • Jessica has at least one sibling mentioned, a sister who has a teenage daughter named Amy who wishes to be a vlogger but then decides she wants to do police work. [1]
  • Jessica has a niece who is a huge fan of Tiffany in the episode The Tiffany Experience.
  • As of S1 E7; she has (2 Service stripes - 10 years of Service)
  • Jessica is the youngest female to make LAPD Captain.
  • Her job title/role was, Specialized Division Commanding Officer for the LAPD Metropolitan Division.
  • As Chris Alonso is often referred to as the first female SWAT officer in history, this implies Jessica was never a SWAT officer before becoming captain. Why she seems to work with SWAT in particular, and under the tutelage of its commander Robert Hicks, is never explained.
