Summary[]

Chris brings the SWAT team into her personal mission to save a teenage girl from a charismatic, predatory religious leader using his church for illicit gain. Also, Hondo receives troubling news about Darryl related to Leroy, Darryl's father, being released from prison.

Recap[]

Chris spotted something on her coffee run. She saw two people arguing and she stepped in when it looked like the guy was trying to force the girl to come with him. Chris was a police officer. It didn’t matter if she was off the clock when something occurred because it was her duty to step in and so she stopped the guy from harassing the girl. He tried to explain his side. He said that he was helping and Chris didn’t care because it ultimately didn’t matter. If the girl who he identified as Zoey didn’t want to go with him, then it wasn’t his job to force her and it sure as hell wasn’t going to happen on Chris’s watch. She made the boyfriend let go of the girl. The girl ran off and Chris told the guy to leave as well.

Chris forgot all about the encounter when she went to work. She and her team were quickly called to the scene when an employee seemingly shot up his office. They deal with mass shootings all the time. This time wasn’t any different because the employee had been fired and he took out on everyone else. The guy was fired because a lot of jobs have become redundant since Covid-19 started and he didn’t know to handle it but shooting up his office and killing people was not the answer. It wasn’t their fault that the business wasn’t doing well or that people weren’t buying tires. The guy who shot up the place didn’t even leave one person alive to take hostage. It was just him when the team got there and they easily subdued him.

No sooner did Chris finish up with this case that she went back to the scenario she came across. Chris remembered seeing Zoey get into a car and that was odd because Zoey had been panhandling. This was when someone wore a sign saying they were too poor for food, clothing, or housing. Zoey was wearing a sign that said she was too poor for cancer treatments and her head was shaved. People naturally thought she was telling the truth. They didn’t suspect differently until Zoey’s boyfriend kicked up a fuss and Chris was forced to intervene. Chris didn’t Zoey at the old spot. She noticed that some new kids had moved in to panhandle and that the boyfriend was back. Chris spoke to the boyfriend this time. She heard his story.

The boyfriend had tried to get Zoey to leave the streets because she was being taken advantage of. She was a part of a church being run by Scott Miller and this guy calling himself “Bishop”. He claims to be the second coming. He ran a church with an ATM in it because he’s convinced people they could buy their way into heaven and he pushes people to come up with the money. If they didn’t have it, the Bishop would convince them to panhandle for him. He even set his own people out there to monitor these kids and so it wasn’t just some shady church. It was a cult. The bishop was the cult leader and he has a special interested in Zoey. He shaved her head when he found out she was dating outside the church.

Dylan told Chris everything. He was trying to rescue his girlfriend from the cult when Chris intervened, and Zoey was able to go back to the cult. Dylan wants to rescue her. He asked Chris for her help and she told him she could see what she could do. She later went to the church. She spoke to the Bishop and she even met with Zoey. She tried talk Zoey into leaving. Only Zoey didn’t want to. She also said Chris should leave because she didn’t want Dylan getting hurt and so someone was threatening him. They were using these threats to control Zoey. Zoey just didn’t realize how manipulative this is. She also didn’t want to face punishment herself because she was afraid of being sent to a place called the Yellow House and the Yellow House was the boogey man. No one wanted to be sent there for punishment.

Zoey liked being in the cult. She liked living in their dormitories because it was better than living on the street or back home. She was sexually abused back home. She doesn’t want to go back there and she has a choice in where she goes because she’s over eighteen. Zoey wanted to stay in the cult. Chris couldn’t do anything about it and she later told Dylan the same thing. They couldn’t force Zoey into doing anything. Chris also couldn’t do anything legally as a cop because this wasn’t her field and so the most, she could do was pass information about this church to the correct department. Chris tried to tell Dylan. She tried to tell him her hands were tied and he didn’t like it. He thought the cops should stop the cult before it could hurt anyone else. And so stormed off angry.

Dylan was still in the parking area when he got snatched. The cult came by, and they forced him into a car by gunpoint. Chris only saw some of it. She reported it and the police watching the cult claimed they didn’t see a thing. They couldn’t step in. They couldn’t do anything because there was no clear proof that Dylan was kidnapped and so Chris turned to her team. She asked them for help. They agreed to look into the cult in their off hours and the first thing they did was send Chris back in. Chris was able to meet with Zoey earlier without a problem. She thought she could meet with her again and this time she was told Zoey wasn’t there. The bishop said Zoey left the church. He claimed that Zoey might have gone back to her boyfriend and he stopped another girl from speaking with Chris.

The bishop also called Chris out for being a cop. He was very smug as he threw her out of his church because he thought she couldn’t touch him and so he didn’t know her. Chris later met with the girl who wanted to speak to her. She asked her about Zoey and the girl claimed Zoey was sent to the Yellow House. People don’t come back normal after the Yellow House. She gave Chris directions and Chris passed those direction to her fellow officers whose job it was to investigate possible cult, but there was an altercation there and one officer was injured and so they called in back up. Like SWAT. Chris and her team were able to move in on the cult. This time they operating under an official capacity and so they got to use all the tools at their disposal.

They moved on the Yellow House. They freed people that were trapped there and they also came across Dylan’s body. He had been killed. He was reportedly killed during a tussle over the gun with the Bishop and there was a witness. The team finally had the Bishop on something. They were getting a warrant to arrest him when Chris’s informant called her and she told her that Zoey was being forced to wed the Bishop. The Bishop was probably trying to save his own skin because he knows a spouse can’t be compelled to testify against them. Only he didn’t know that they had found the Yellow House and the dead body inside. Chris had felt bad for what happened to Dylan. She blames herself and so she more than anyone had wanted to stop the Bishop.

The team went to the church. They caused such a fuss that the wedding couldn’t go ahead and so they caught up with the Bishop while he had taken Zoey prisoner in the security guard’s booth. It was surrounded all sides. There was no way they could leave and the only option to save Zoey was by assassinating the Bishop. Chris personally fired the weapon that took him down. She was also there when Zoey was freed from the booth. Zoey may have lost Dylan, but she has real friends in the church and a place to stay once they abandoned the church.

Hondo had his own problems as well. He found out there was an open file on Darryl because he hanging with a known gang member who happens to be his father and so Hondo spoke to them about it. He asked Leroy to keep Darryl clean. Darryl was fighting for custody of his son and he was thinking about college. Hondo didn’t want Darryl to risk that by following his father into the life.
