S.W.A.T. Wiki

Darryl Henderson is a recurring character in crime drama series S.W.A.T.. He is the son of Hondo's friend Leroy who is incarcerated and later adopted by Hondo himself. Darryl is portrayed by DeShae Frost.

History[]

At age 15, Darryl fathered a child, Deon, before his incarceration.

After Darryl's release from juvenile hall, Hondo and his mother Charice take him in and begin looking for a foster home for him. They soon learn that as an ex-felon, Darryl's options are limited. One such family offered to adopt him and treat the children their care without abuse. However, Hondo was concerned that the family did not truly nurture the children in their care, having had no contact with them after they leave the house at age 18. After some discussion with Street and Charice, Hondo decides to permanently take Darryl in.

As part of the process, Hondo has a friend remove Darryl's prison tattoos so he can start applying for part-time jobs. Despite some managers focusing on his past as a felon, Darryl eventually obtains one such job helping deliver snacks to convenience stores before sunrise for a food distributor. During his first shift, however, Darryl is shot in the leg by his coworker and hospitalized. Although he is initially under suspicion for robbing some of his boss's customers, Hondo eventually proves the boss's nephew acted unilaterally and shot Darryl for trying to stop him.

The resulting surgery compromises Darryl's legs, making it likely that he'll walk again but never at full capacity. Although Darryl is initially unmotivated to work towards rehabilitation, Hondo eventually convinces him to keep working on it. Soon after the arrest of Cinque, Darryl is able to walk on crutches. Hondo then reveals that in order to start being a bigger part of Darryl's life, he has taken 64 vacation days to spend time with Darryl through the rest of his recovery. The two spend that time in Australia, eventually returning with Darryl's ability to walk on his own restored.

Upon their return, Darryl begins spending more time with Daniel Harrelson Sr., learning from him how to repair cars. The two first enter an auto show contest with Daniel Sr.'s restored Chevy, but Darryl's determination to keep working on the car increases after they lose. Darryl is also the first one to notice Daniel Sr.'s coughing fits as a symptom of more severe problems.
